Seaton Town came back from two down to earn a point from a 2-2 draw at Fresha League title rivals St Martins.
Town boss Stunell said: “It was not a classic, but much of that was down to the state of the pitch which was as soft as a pudding and it made passing the ball, for both teams, very difficult. At two down half way through, it was obvious to me that we should go on the attack. I know that’s a high risk strategy as in such circumstances, you can go on an be beaten heavily, or, as happened in this case, you get something for your efforts.”
The Exminster based side led 2-0 right up until the final fifteen minutes when a trio of changes altered the outcome of the match. Rikki Sargent, Tom Vincent and Jack Lamb-Wilson were summoned from the bench. Within five minutes Sargent had fired Town back into the contest and four minutes later Ben Ede’s free-kick was headed home by Mark Hancock.
There was still time for the home side to miss a glorious chance to pinch all three points when a miss-kick ended with the ball in the grateful arms of Town keeper Dave Perham.
Stunell said: “All teams that win titles win their home games and return home with something to show from away games, and that’s what we did at St Martin’s”
This Saturday, Town head for Willand Rovers Reserves who knocked them out of the East Devon Senior Cup earlier in the season with a 3-1 victory at Colyford Road.
Stunell says: “I’ll remind the players of that cup defeat. You are never quite sure what you face when up against a Western league Reserve side. We’ll go there confident, but not over-confident.”
