The past week saw the final of the East Devon Short Mat Bowls League Cup Final, writes Caroline Pavey.

The second leg affair was at Sidbury with the A team, looking for a come back against Awliscombe A.

In the first leg at Awliscombe, the home team had won three-and-a-half games to Sidbury’s two-and-a-half.

So, with an advantage they needed to win at least three games, but on the night Sidbury had different ideas, with the home advantage they were confident they could get the four games they needed. With the pairs playing first the got off the mark quickly and didn’t look back, wining both games.

Then it was the turn of the singles player’s, it was expected that with the players who were playing it would a be tight affairs, and as expected that’s exactly what happened!

In one game Sidbury played his last bowl to win the game, in the other game the Awliscombe player was looking for three on the last end, but only got two, giving Sidbury the four points needed, so it was then game over with only two games left, Awliscombe couldn’t get enough so conceded.

It has been a very good end to the season, and well done to all who took part.

Could I remind all East Devon bowlers about the singles competition being held at Cloakham Lawns in September.

There is also the AGM being held on August 13 at Musbury Village Hall.
