Sidmouth Men played their first County Trophy Over-60s match of the indoor season last Wednesday, write Sue and Peter Mison.
Against Isca on a two rink at home, two rink away basis, Sidmouth found the Exeter side in fine form and were defeated on three of the four rinks. However, well done to our winning rink Maurice Watson, Peter Mison, Mike Reader and skip John Mason who won 20-15.
Two days later Sidmouth A played their first round of the Mason Trophy against a strong Mid Devon Team, losing both at home and away. The away team of Mary Smith, Jenny Fricker, Ann Capon and skip Jill Bishop put up a good fight, but Mid Devon, now strengthened by players from Padbrook Park, were just too good.
Two Sidmouth mixed teams travelled to Budleigh Salterton for a friendly match last Friday where we won overall by three shots. Well done, to the winning rink of Susie Bonnell, Gill Cronk, Ralph Brooks and skip John Mason who won 20-16.
On Saturday morning Sidmouth Men were involved in the first round of the Charles Parrott Trophy which is for unbadged players. Two teams, one at home and one away, played Torbay who always present tough opposition.
On this occasion Sidmouth lost by four shots overall in a very creditable performance by both teams. Well done to the home winning rink of Maurice Watson, Peter Mison, Bert Hague and skip Bob Seldon who won by 23 shots to 17.
Four mixed teams visited Honiton on Sunday afternoon for a friendly against one of our nearest rivals. Although Sidmouth won on three of the four rinks, Honiton won by 18 shots overall. Our best rink was Connie Tolley, Elaine Reed, John Brown and skip Ed Backhouse who won 18-14.
Isca ladies came to Sidmouth on Tuesday to play triples. After a close game on two of the three rinks Isca won overall by 13 shots. Our best rink was Susie Bonnell, Evelyn Clements and Phyll Nobbs who drew 13-all.
