SOHC men continue their fine start to Southern One campaign with home victory

Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club had a match day of mixed results and they chalked up four wins, a draw and three defeats in the eight matches played by their men’s and ladies’ teams.

Top billing went to the men’s 1st XI, who sit joint second in the fledgling Southern One table after a 2-1 home win over Plymouth Marjon B.

Only table-toppers University of Exeter E are unbeaten four games into the new campaign and they have 10 points, three more than no fewer than four clubs – SOHC 1st XI amongst them – who have seven points from the opening four games.

Next up for the first team is a Saturday trip to Tavistock (4.30pm), who currently sit one point and one place below SOHC in the table.

The men’s 2nd XI landed their first win of the campaign, bagging their first clean sheet in the process as they won 2-0 at Taunton Vale C.

On Saturday the 2nd XI, who are currently fourth bottom in the South East One table, are in home action when they entertain Minehead A (12.30pm), who sit one place and two points above them in the table.

The men’s third eleven shared two goals in a home meeting with Chard B. Next for the thirds, who sit third from bottom in the early season South East Two table, is Saturday’s trip to a Taunton Vale D side that sit fifth. The Somerset side were 5-3 winners last weekend.

The SOHC men’s fourth team were beaten 8-2 away at ECVH B, a result that leaves them sitting bottom of the South East Two table. Yet to register a point in their league campaign, the fourth team entertain sixth placed Bridgwater C on Saturday (2pm).
