Chard Swimming Club were in action at the weekend again, with swimmers competing at the SW Regional short course Championships at Millfield, and also the West Dorset Christmas Meet at the new Dorchester Leisure Centre pool writes Hannah Pullinger.

Twenty swimmers aged between 9 and17 took part in events at the West Dorset Meet, Chard swimmers turned in some great performances, gaining twenty four top- three medal positions; 8 Golds, 8 Silvers and 8 Bronze.

Meanwhile, at Millfield eight of the Club’s Regional level swimmers were in action at the Short Course Championships, achieving some good personal best times and securing new seasons regional qualifying times.

Luke van den Barselaar (17 years) competed in eight events, Hannah Pullinger (16) in seven events, Abi Dare (15), five events, Jake Hallam (16), four events, Ben Fowler (16), three events, Tessa Down (15), four events, Melissa Hanson (14), two events, Elisha Hawkins (13), two events and Lauren Harrison (15), one.

They were also treated to seeing some of the GB Olympic swimmers competing – Michael Jamieson, Andrew Willis and Lizzie Simmonds, all showing how it should be done!

At West Dorset Golds went to: Oliver Bilbie (14), 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle, Leo Kindred (11), 50m and 100m breaststroke, Henry Taswell (11), 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m freetyle and 100m Individual Medley.

Silvers were awarded to; Jay Kindred (15), 50m and 100 breaststroke, Nathan Roberts (15), 50m backstroke, Billie-Jo Dance (15), 50m and 100m butterfly, Oliver Bilbie (14), 100 freestyle, Henry Taswell (11), 50m butterfly, Xanthe Dyer (10), 100m butterfly.

Bronzes went to: Billie-Jo Dance (15), 100m Individual Medley, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, Oliver Bilbie (14), 100m Individual Medley, 50m butterfly, Paul Harrison 14, 50m breaststroke, Abbie Bonning (12), 50m freestyle, Xanthe Dyer (10), 100m breaststroke,

Other swimmers taking part and achieving many personal best times were: Wilf Gosden (17), Alex Phillips (15), Lauren Real (15), Marianna Dyer (14), Rory Dyer (14), Mollie Simpson (14), Tom Simpson (12), Jess Fowler (11), Helen Underwood (10), Megan Herbert (10), Leo Bonning (10).
