Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club will be organising an open water swim along the seafront at Sidmouth on third Sunday of September.

The Great Sea Swim is a charity event with all proceeds of the event going to the Teenage Charity Trust – you can see the work they do at www.teenagecancertrust.org

The event, being held off Sidmouth on September 16, will see swimmers opt to enter the 1km, 2km or 3km swims and there is also a junior swim for U14 to U16 swimmers with that distance being 1km.

All swimmers under 18 years of age will only have to donate £5 to enter. All swimmers will be provided with a swim cap and there are prizes for first swimmers home. To enter go to: www.greatseaswim.com

The swim will start on the beach in front of the Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club’s headquarters at the Arches and swimmers will swim parallel with the shore 500m eastwards and then 500m westwards, on a 1km loop, finishing back at the start point.

The event is kindly sponsored by local law firm Kitsons and Jo Pavey MBE will be presetning the awards at the end of the action.

The chairman of Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club, Dave Manley, says: “With 120 young members in the Surf Lifesaving Club, the teenage cancer trust is a charity that is close to our hearts.

“We hope this swim will raise significant funds to support young people in the area struck down with cancer at such a young age.

“The support they give to young people is truly inspiring. We have an ambition for this to be an annual event and as such would like to encourage as many local swimmers to attend as possible.”
