Round two of the 36-hole Marker Cup competition got under-way in incredibly benign conditions, write Andy Wagner.
Gone were the fierce winds and threatening rain clouds of last week’s first 18 holes leaving players time to appreciate the beauty of the course they love rather than hacking through wet rough or peering into wild vegetation to retrieve gale affected balls sliced off the tee!
The winning scores reflected the pleasure of the morning’s stroll with John Tierney scoring best in Division One.
His nett 66 took precedence over John Marchant’s and Paul Hill’s 68.
Division Two was even better with Sid Martin’s nett 65 beating Club Captain Dave Morgan’s 70 and Mike Watts’ 72.
All this left John Tierney the overall winner with a 73, 66 nett 139.
Stan Squire was second with a very steady 70, 70 nett 140 and Jake Phillips 71, 70 nett 141.
So, a very close competition at the close.
