Once again Honiton netball fell foul of the weather – but after the snow and ice it was now wind and rain at Honiton that caused games to be cancelled – meaning only two second division games at Colyton took place.

Division 2

Sidmouth Toucans 42, Pixies 16

JD Tyres 36, Water Babes 8

Second-placed Pixies found themselves again playing Sidmouth Toucans, who they had lost to last time out.

Last time the Pixies had done enough to earn a point, but this time they were not so lucky!

Toucans started very strongly and at quarter time were 9-2 in front, a lead that had been extended to 16-6 by half time.

With Louise Hasting in fine form they had extended this lead to 27-11 going into the final period.

In the final quarter they really piled on the pressure and although Rachel Edwards worked hard for Pixies they were second best to the Sidmouth side, who ended the match with a resounding 42-16 win.

JD Tyres also maintained the pressure for a second place finish when they met Water Babes for the second game in a row. Once again they proved too strong for the newcomers and led from the start to record a comfortable 36-8 win thanks to some excellent attacking play from Tanya Broom, despite the good defensive work from Rowan Bradford for the Babes.

With Pixies’ defeat the race for second place has been blown wide open, with only 5 points separating 2nd and 4th places, and with Toucans with a game in hand over both Pixies and JD Tyres, who have the best goal difference. The forfeiture by JD of their opening game of the season has currently cost them the second place in the division. It looks as though it will be a close run thing for the promotion spaces in division 2.
