This coming Saturday sees the running of the Umborne Ug 10k.

The event starts at 6pm is a race targeted at the 16-and-over age group.

It is a mostley off-road race run over stunningly beautiful, but hilly scenery starting and finishing at Umborne Village Hall.

The 10k starts at 6pm and the 2013 event had 100 runners. There is also a four-mile walk mostly around the same course starting at 5pm.

There is also a 2.5k Fun Run that starts at 6.10pm with this event run mostly on road and flat ground. Last year’s Fun Run event saw 50 take part.

The runs are officially organised by Axe Valley Runners in association with Umborne Hall and are held under the Association of Running Clubs rules.

Positions and times will be taken and recorded on the AVR website (www.axevalleyrunners.org.uk). Prizes will be awarded to the first three male and first three female runners, male vet 40, 50 and 60 and female vet 35, 45 and 55. There will be encouraging marshals on the course, lots of signs, a water station at the half-way point and magnificent cakes, hot and cold drinks, a bar and barbecue afterwards - an event for the whole family.

There is no entry fee. Donations for the run and the food and drinks will go towards the hall fund and will be most welcome.

For those requiring a post code to sat nav their way to the venue it is EX13 7QL.
