Upottery 4, Chulmleigh 3
Upottery kept their nerve to resists a visiting comeback to go on and secure a much deserved Fresha League Division Three success.
The villagers led 1-0 and 2-0 and, after the visitors halved the deficit scored a third to go into the break two goals to the good.
Chulmleigh scored again early in the second half, but the Upottery two-goal lead was swiftly restored and, though the visitors netted again, the home side dug deep to claim victory.
Steve Morris (2), Dan Scadden and Sam Winslade scored the Upottery goals, but the villagers Man of the Match award went to central defender Gary Moore.
Upottery boss Dan Prettejohn said: “We did not play well and that’s disappointing. However, to under-perform and still bank all three points says a lot for the character we have in the dressing room.”
On Saturday Upottery are back in action with a home meeting against Plymouth and District League side Roborough the Devon Senior Cup.
Prettejohn says (tongue in cheek): “It’s a competition I’d like to think we can go far in, perhaps all the way so we’ll prepare correctly for this next tie looking to do all we can to get into the next round.”
