Division One: OPG 38, Hi Q 15; Flamingos 46, Bo-Peeps 23; Wasps 36, Uplowman 21.
It was business as usual for the top two teams in the division as Flamingos retained their 100 per cent record with a win over Bo-Peeps to remain seven points clear at the top of the table with just four games remaining.
With Karen Hall in fine sharp shooter form, the Flamingos led the Peeps by 14-3 at quarter time and they continued to build on this throughout the game to win by 46-23, a result that denied Bo-Peeps a point by a single goal. Poppy Williams worked hard at centre for the Peeps throughout the game but the Flamingos were just too strong for them.
OPG stayed within seven points of the leaders thanks to their victory over bottom placed Hi Q who are still looking for their first win of the season. OPG started strongly and by half way were 19-6 ahead thanks to some fine work from Hannah Lee. The last two quarters saw an improvement in the Hi Q play thanks to good work from Louise Garman but although they scored more in these two sessions they finished on the wrong end of the 38-15 scoreline.
Wasps were up against Uplowman – with Uplowman having won the last time these two teams met. The game started slowly with Wasps ahead 4-3. The second quarter was higher scoring with Wasps winning by 16-10. .With great play from Sasha Williams at C for Wasps, Wasps kept their lead and led the third quarter by 24-16. The last quarter saw Wasps up their game despite Clair Toms at GA for Uplowman hitting the target and playing well, Wasps held on to win 36-21.
Division Two: Howden Hawks 24, Sidmouth Toucans 22; Tip Top Trees 41, JD Tyres 29; Weather Girls 24, NAS 20
Having beaten then twice before, Howden Hawks met Sidmouth Toucans in a much closer game, thanks to excellent play from Anna Rowson for the Toucans. By half way Hawks had a slender 10-9 advantage. The third quarter went goal for goal so that the start of the final session it was Hawks still one goal ahead at 16-15. In the final period Hawks, with Jess Mickimon doing well, managed to increase their lead to win by 24-22.
The Weather Girls also had a scare when they met bottom side NAS and had to wait til the third quarter to take charge. Maria Dorothy urging her team on the Girls opened up a 18-13 lead. With Rachel Edwards playing well at GA for NAS they had the better of the final period but the Girls held on for a 24-20 victory – phew!
Tip Top Trees held on to their second place in the division with a fine win over a hard working JD Tyres side. The game started evenly with the score tied at 7-7 at quarter time. With Laura Dare playing well the Trees moved 20-11 ahead by half way and further increased their lead to 33-20 despite good work from Tanya Broom for JD. JD did in fact have slightly the better of the final period but it was a fine 41-29 win for them, and the biggest second division win.
