Chard and District Swimming Club took part in the recent Somerset Development Meet aimed at young and in-experienced swimmers looking to try to achieve County times for next spring, writes Hannah Pullinger.
Thirty swimmers age nine and upwards took part over two days achieving many personal best times and a total of thirty four County qualifying times.
Two performances of particular note came from Xanthe Dyer age 11 who achieved the Club Silver Speed Badge for swimming 50m Freestyle in under 36 seconds for the first time, and twelve-year-old Henry Taswell who broke the Club 12 and under record by swimming 2.36.60 in the 200m Backstroke.
Top three medal positions were achieved by: Jay Kindred, 16, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200m individual medley; Lewis Pearson, 13, 100 and 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly; Flo Swan, 14, 50 and 100m butterfly; Henry Taswell, 12, 200 backstroke, 50 and 200m breaststroke; Paul Harrison, 14 , 100m freestyle; Leo Kindred, 12, 50 and 200m breaststroke; Nathan Roberts, 16, 100m backstroke; Joss Copeman, 11, 50m backstroke; Xanthe Dyer, 11, 50 and 100m breaststroke; Louis Rood, 10, 50m butterfly; Harriet Copeman, 9, 50 and 200m backstroke; Jimmy Brett, 9, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle; Millie Downes, 9, 50m breaststroke, and Cole Dickinson, 9, 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly.
