James Mitcham’s side had completed their programme the week before and were forced to sit out the final day and hope that Chelston did not become the first side this term to defeat Babbacombe and so deny Yarcombe a promotion berth.

The day ended triumphantly for Mitcham and his team though as Babbacombe claimed a five wicket win at Chelston to leave Yarcombe joining the South Devon side in the E Division next season.

Mitcham said: “It was a nervous wait. We have been superb all season long and fully deserve to be going up. I am already looking forward to life in the higher division and visiting what will be some new grounds for us all. Everybody has contributed this season. It’s certainly not been a case of single players carrying us through for I think throughout the campaign its been very much a team effort and I salute and indeed thank all the players for their honest endeavours this past season.”
