Young Billy plays first 18 holes of golf and ends a winner at Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis club captain Matt Searle held his Captain’s Day stableford and it was appropriate that his son Brad came in with 46 points an exceptional score to win the juniors’ prize from Dominic Beardwood who too had a good score with 43 points, writes Richard Jackman.

Leading lady on the day was Gilly Madill with 36 points. Division One was won by Geoff Moss, 40 points from Jason Conteras, 39 points and Jim Allan 37. Division Two was won by Alan Simpson with 40 points from Chris Brewer, 39, and Joey Thirlwell, 38. Best scratch score went to Jon Ebdon with a one-under par 70.

In the July Stableford Division One, junior Bradley Rowe, 39 points, just beat Maurice De Pasquale on countback and club captain Matt Searle claimed third with 38.

Division Two completed a good weekend for the family as junior Bradley Searle playing off his new handicap won with 38 points from Mark Taylor, 37, on countback from Paul Millard

The ladies PING four-ball better ball was won with an excellent score of 41 points by Emma Davies and Sue Fossett from Di Smith and Julie Duke, 40, with Sandra Barclay and Kim Beauchamp taking third on countback

Last Sunday saw a complete cross section of the club turn out for the first Club Fun Day.

Over 70 years covered the age range as all abilities, scratch to 36 and 40 for a junior were mixed together, playing a Texas Scramble.

Although the day was more about the occasion and less about the golf it was the last minute group of club manager Duncan Driver, John Lawrence and John Gait and his young son Billy that took the winner’s prize.

This was Billy’s first 18 holes of golf, so a wonderful introduction. Extra members turned up in the evening to enjoy a barbecue and dancing to Chain Reaction where club members Mike Mudford and rock legend Barry Ebdon played the night away. All in all a very memorable, fun day.
