Archant

Topsham’s Estuary Players take on the crystal wit of Noel Coward with their next show, Blithe Spirit, coming up soon.

Coward’s best known play, Blithe Spirit is described as ‘an improbable farce’. It brings the ghost of Charles Condomine’s first wife into the home he shares with his second – and they don’t get on. That’s the trigger for a cascade of witty one-liners and unlikely scenarios, launched by eccentric medium Madame Arcati.

The Estuary Players are tackling it in the spirit and time in which it was written, with beautiful mid-1930s costumes.

The production is directed by Avril Pattinson. The small cast of seven, all well known to Topsham audiences, have been getting to grips with Coward’s dazzling wit, and recreating that special middle-class 1930s’ atmosphere in which it flourishes.

The show runs from Tuesday, November 24 to Friday, November 27 at 7.30pm in the Matthews Hall, Topsham. Tickets are £8, available from the Topsham Bookshop or the Matthews Hall café, or call 01392 873043.
