Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the annual switch-on of lights at Exmouth’s Devoncourt Hotel in Douglas Avenue.

The popular festive event swings into action at 6pm for 6.30pm on Friday, November 27. The switch-on – performed by Exmouth mayor Councillor Maddy Chapman – is at 7pm. The Boys’ Brigade hand bell ringers will be playing Christmas carols, while the young performers from Centre Stage will provide melody and song. ‘Appy ‘Angus - from Exmouth’s World of Country Life - will also be on hand to greet all the children.

“The lights are always the start of our Christmas festivities,” says Andrew Stoneman, the hotel’s general manager. Preparations have been ongoing since October, and now the lights are ready to go. “I’m really looking forward to it,” says Andrew.

The display features hundreds of illuminated figurines in the hotel’s gardens. If you miss Friday-night’s switch-on, don’t worry. You can see the lights every night after dusk, up until January 2.
