Archant

Get your Santa suit on this Saturday (December 13) for the 2014 Santa Dash. The fun event – an hilarious highpoint in Exmouth’s festive calendar – will raise funds for Christian Aid.

This year, the event has been relocated to Phear Park. Meet at 3pm at the park’s cafe to register. There are two courses to choose from. You can toddle (2km, £2 entry) or run (5km, £5 entry). Among the prizes is one for the best fancy dress, while keen dashers can also enter the treasure hunt. There’s also a medal for everyone who crosses the finish line.

All the money raised by Exmouth residents will be matched by the UK government – pound for pound – meaning even more lives can be saved in childbirth across Kenya and Malawi.

For further information, contact Laura on 023 8070 6969, or email southwest@christian-aid.org

And, if you don’t fancy dressing like Santa, how about visiting the real Father Christmas? There’s plenty of opportunities to do so around Exmouth.

Santa will be in his grotto this weekend at Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. Children can visit him on Saturday, December 13, and Sunday, December 14, 11am-4pm. Tickets are £3.95, including a gift. Santa’s grotto will also be at Bicton from Thursday, December 18, until December 23 and on Christmas Eve from 11am to 2pm. Tickets for the grotto can be purchased from reception.

Santa is also at Kings Garden and Leisure in Higher Hulham Road every Saturday and Sunday leading up to Christmas, 11-4pm, and Christmas Eve (phone to check times). Visiting Santa is free (no booking necessary) or you can choose a present to buy from the gift tree. Bookings are also being taken for breakfast with Santa between 9am and 11am on weekends. Call 01395 271911 for details.

The town’s two Rotary clubs will be out in force again this Christmas with collections at Tesco as well as in the Magnolia Centre. They will also be singing carols with Santa and his sleigh as he tours around Brixington on December 17.

The Exmouth Rotary Club will be collecting for the town’s food bank and will start its festive collection at Tesco on December 16. The Exmouth Raleigh club will be doing a similar collection outside Tesco on December 17.

On the same night, the Exmouth club will be touring Langstone Drive and Cherieswood Avenue in Brixington with Santa.

The club will have its usual collection in the Magnolia Centre outside the Co-op and children will be able to see Santa in his sleigh. He’ll be there on December 20, 22, 23 (10am-5pm) and Christmas Eve (10am-4pm), all in aid of the food bank.

There will also be a Christmas tree outside the Co-op. It’s been donated by Kings Garden Centre.
