Exmouth Kite Festival to take off again
09:49 19 February 2015
The Exmouth Kite Festival will be back in the skies over the town’s Imperial Recreation Ground after a three-year absence.
The colourful and entertaining family event – featuring imaginative kites soaring skywards – will be on Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30.
The Kite Festival flows on from the week-long Exmouth Festival, with a joint arena concert featuring The Wurzels on Friday, May 28, linking the two events.
In addition, Joey The Lips will headline a second arena concert on Saturday, May 30.
The last Exmouth Kite Festival was in 2012. Although it was well supported, works on the Imperial Rec Ground meant that the event could not be held in 2013 and 2014.
“We are delighted to be bringing the Kite Festival back with an even more ambitious programme of performers and including two evening arena concerts,” said Malcolm Pressey, for the Kite Festival. “I am delighted that we are teaming up with Exmouth Festival to create a great grand finale weekend.”
On the evening of Friday, May 29, West Country favourites The Wurzels will be performing, promoting the band’s current album, A Load More Bullocks.
On Saturday, May 30, popular funk and soul covers band Joey the Lips is back ‘by popular request’.
“We will have a better stage than before with a high-specification sound system and lightshow,” said Mr Pressey. “It is going to be a great weekend. We want everyone to have maximum fun and also to raise money for our charities, Children’s Hospice South West, The Exeter – Mid Devon – East Devon Samaritans and also to raise money for the Exmouth Festival.”
Tickets for both Kite Festival concerts are now on sale. Visit: www.exmouthrotaryclub.co.uk/kite-festival/ticket-shop. Tickets for each show are £12.50 in advance from the website, or £14 on the gate. Concessions are available. Concertgoers are invited to take their own picnic tables, chairs, rugs and a picnic. Hot food will also be available from on-site caterers. There’s also a cider bus, selling cider, ale and wine.
Gates open at 6.30pm. Support acts from 7pm. Main acts: 8.45pm-10pm.
