New exhibition in Honiton aims to take drudgery out of gift shopping

As in previous years, Thelma Hulbert Gallery curator Angela Blackwell has spent the summer months trawling the rich seam of creative designer-makers from the South West, drawing together a broad range of local artisans of supreme quality for the annual THG ‘Present Makers’ pre-Christmas selling exhibition at The Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Honiton.
Present Makers 2012 provides the perfect opportunity to browse for refreshingly different gifts in the comfortable surroundings of Thelma’s former home, a grade II listed Georgian villa in a leafy corner of Honiton.
With fresh filter coffee and biscuits constantly available in the THG refreshment room, Present Makers 2012 aims to take the drudgery out of the annual festival frenzy of gift shopping.
This year, several old favourites will be welcomed back – including Tim Oldham from Gittisham, who makes elegant fragranced wood wardrobe hangers, very popular in 2011 – together with new discoveries including funky fabric ‘Oddbods’ by Nikki Hargood, from Honiton, elegant Japanese-inspired ceramics by Trevor Lillistone, and jewellery made from recycled materials by Sophie Meseg.
Cathy King and Emma Molony from Exeter Phoenix’s Double Elephant Print Workshop will also be showing examples of their work.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, November 10, with a special launch event from 3pm-5pm, where the odd glass of wine and a few soft drinks will also be on hand to ease the browsing process!
