Archant

Along with his friends Ratty, Mole and Badger, Mr Toad arrives at Exmouth’s Blackmore Theatre this month in the Exmouth Players’ production of Wind in the Willows,

Many of us fondly remember Kenneth Grahame’s popular children’s book, where the irrepressible Mr Toad involves his friends into mad-cap adventures by the riverbank.

Adapted by Alan Bennett for the National Theatre about 20 years ago, the play is now a classic in its own right. Sometimes known as the ‘panto with whiskers’, director Peter Nickols-Rawle promises an exciting production, bringing to life Ratty, Mole, Badger and Mr Toad, not to mention rabbits, mice, otters, squirrels and others, all played by adults.

Experienced actors Nick Lawrence, Tony Christopher, Finn Morley-Welch and Mark Blaber take on the main parts, with the remaining 13 cast members playing as many as four characters each.

From the moment Mole steps out of his hole early one morning, intent on meeting the elusive Badger, through to the battle against the wily Weasels who try to take over Toad Hall, this charming play will thrill all ages.

The play runs from Monday, January 19 to Saturday, January 24, at 7.30pm, with a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday. Tickets are £7 (Monday) or £8 (Tuesday–Saturday), with children under 12 half-price. There is also a family ticket available for £22 (two adults, two children under 12).

Tickets are available now through the Ticketline on 07905 761485 or may be purchased from the theatre foyer between 10am and 2pm, or before each performance (subject to availability).
