Popular classics in Axe Vale Orchestra’s concert

The Axe Vale Orchestra will present a concert in Seaton Methodist Church, on Sunday, February 14, at 3pm.

Conducted by guest conductor Stuart Ellsmore, the programme opens with Mendelssohn’s orchestral overture Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage.

That is followed by orchestra leader Alex Ennis playing the violin solo in Vaughan Williams’s romance The Lark Ascending, and, still in pastoral mood, the orchestra play Butterworth’s piece based on two English folksongs, The Banks of Green Willow.

A classical symphony written 120 years earlier completes the performance – Haydn’s Symphony no. 103 in Eb – The Drumroll.

The performance is followed by tea and home-made cakes for the audience to enjoy.

Tickets for the concert are £10 on the door or they are available from The Archway Bookshop, in Church Street, Axminster and The Little Shop in Colyton.
There is no charge for schoolchildren or for those in full time education.
