Save your kisses for the tram

To celebrate the 40th birthday of the Tramway at Seaton, and to coincide with Eurovision time, the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest winners, Brotherhood of Man, will be performing live on top of a tram on Saturday, June 5.

Brainchild of the late Claude Lane, Seaton Tramway first came into existence after Lane decided his tramway, then in Eastbourne, deserved a more secure future by way of being sited on his own freehold land.

After much negotiation, there followed the daunting challenge of transporting the entire tramway from Eastbourne to Seaton by lorry!

Seaton Tramway's managing director, Jenny Nunn, said 'we are delighted to be welcoming Brotherhood of Man, especially at Eurovision time, to help us celebrate this very special birthday in style. Let's hope we'll be doing this all again in 40 years time."

At 5pm on 5th June, the BBC newsreader Nick Owen, launches the birthday tram (specially decorated in 70's glam rock style) at Seaton, when Brotherhood of Man (still boasting original line up), will be performing from the top deck. The tram will then travel to Colyton with special guests on board.

Once at Fairfield in Colyton the 'concert spectacular,' in conjunction with Colyton Christmas Fayries begins with glam rock band, Diamond Dogz, followed by Brotherhood of Man once more and culminating with the highly respected Queen tribute band, The Bohemians. There will be a bar and food available on site. A return tram will leave at 11pm after a big birthday firework display. Tickets for the concert are: Adults £12.50 and children up to 16yrs £7.50 - please call 01297 20375 or 552518 for further details.
