‘Promoting Musical Excellence’ is the motto of Seaton Music and the programme for their 66th season looks set to provide a wide range of top performers at The Gateway in Seaton.

Starting on Thursday, October 19, Martyn Jackson, of the Allegri Quartet, will perform works from Beethoven to Poulenc, accompanied by returning pianist Simon Callaghan.

The club’s fine Steinway piano will again be heard on Thursday, November 16, when Alex Wilson will present a programme of music by composers affected by World War One – including Butterworth, Bridge and Gurney.

On Thursday, December 14, the club welcomes bassoonist Jarek Augustyniak (BBC National Orchestra of Wales), oboist John Anderson (English Chamber Orchestra) and pianist Sophia Rahman.

Their programme will include the bassoon sonata by Richard Rodney Bennett, which Seaton Music commissioned in 1993.

The Schubert Ensemble make a welcome return on Thursday, January 25 playing works by Brahms and Dvorák, together with a new piano quartet by outstanding young British composer Charlotte Bray.

They will also do a workshop with children at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Axminster.

The February concert sees the return of pianist Sarah Beth Briggs, together with James Lisney, playing works from Mozart to Debussy.

The final concert of the season again features woodwind, with Charlotte Aston, principal flute of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by prize-winning pianist William Vann.

SeatonMusic is grateful for support from The Countess of Munster Trust, Exeter and District Classical Music Trust, and solicitors Beviss and Beckingsale, as well as several individual sponsors.

A spokesman for the group said: “This makes it possible to present first-class concerts at reasonable prices!

Membership is open to all, and a season ticket costs £65, but there are tickets for individual concerts, too.”

Full details of concerts, tickets and membership are on the club’s website- or from the chairman, Geoff Sharpe on 01297 35497.
