to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Year, the Honiton Players are producing four original short plays to be performed at the Mackarness Hall, Honiton, in July.

One of them is a fast-paced comedy entitled Chain Reaction, written, directed by and starring founder member Jan Guscott.

It tells the story of middle-aged, harassed housewife Jane, who is desperately trying to move back to her roots in Cornwall, which proves to be anything but straightforward, with buyers constantly pulling out at the last minute.

Her mother, Helen, who makes a habit of turning up unannounced – and not always at convenient times – doesn’t want her daughter to leave her in suburbia and makes no secret of it. To make matters worse, her well-meaning Italian neighbour, Rosita, tries to be helpful but is probably the clumsiest person in the world.

Jane’s husband Tom struggles to tolerate her. Their oft-wayward daughter Lucy and her boyfriend seem to present the ideal solution to their relocation problem with an unexpected reason!

Performances are on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7, at 7.30pm (ticket price £5) with a matinee on at 2.30pm on the Saturday (ticket price £3).
