New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to a restaurant in Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Wesley's, at The Temple Methodist Church, Fore Street, Budleigh Salterton was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on August 31.

Kings Garden And Leisure Ltd, at Kings Garden And Leisure, Hulham Road, Exmouth was given a score of four on July 31.

It means that of East Devon's 274 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 201 (73%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.

Ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection. It is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times.

The scheme gives businesses a rating from 5 to 0 which is displayed at their premises and online.

5 – hygiene standards are very good

4 – hygiene standards are good

3 – hygiene standards are generally satisfactory

2 – some improvement is necessary

1 – major improvement is necessary

0 – urgent improvement is required
