New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of East Devon’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Brook Kitchen, at 60 High Street, Budleigh Salterton was handed a four-out-of-five rating after assessment on August 23.

And Restaurant at the Manor, at Manor Hotel, The Beacon, Exmouth was given a score of two on August 23.

It means that of East Devon's 284 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 206 (73%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.

atings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection. It is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times.

The scheme gives businesses a rating from 5 to 0 which is displayed at their premises and online.

4 – hygiene standards are good

3 – hygiene standards are generally satisfactory

2 – some improvement is necessary

1 – major improvement is necessary

0 – urgent improvement is required
