Volunteers from Seaton Beer and District Branch had a great and successful time at the end of August to the middle of September.

On Saturday 26th August Pat Watterson and I assisted by Roger Grose attended the Seaton Carnival Table Top Sale in the gardens of the Tourist Information Centre. On Sunday 27th August we attended the Seaton Carnival Classic Car Show on Seaton Seafront. The weather was fine and warm and there were many interesting classic cars and some other vehicles.

On Saturday 2nd September our Treasurer Novello Tucker and I as in previous years entered the Walking Pairs Class of the Carnival Procession. We won 1st prize and the cup. We were joined by Pat Watterson and Ann Roberts who collected during the procession. RNLI Ted was in his sea pushchair and had lost one of his paddles. Ted was pushed along by Novello. I was in Ted's lifeboat.

On Sunday, September 10 it was the Axe Yacht Club Charity Day in aid of our branch of the RNLI. We attended with our stall. Our Volunteer and F2F Team Member Kate Filby and the Lyme Regis Sea Safety were there too. At 2pm the Lyme Regis Lifeboat came and did a display then came up the river and tied up alongside a pontoon. Pat, Wendy Marselle and I and members of the public took it in turns to go on board and it was great to hear from the crew how the lifeboat worked and operational procedures. A new Lyme Regis lifeboat would cost approximately £285,000.

We are looking forward to our Annual Autumn Sponsored Walk on Sunday 22nd October. This year we have chosen a walk from the archives and I completed it in 1999, 2003, 2008 and 2016. A reserve date may be chosen nearer the time. The total distance of the walk is approximately eight miles and starts from Sutton Thorn and goes down through the Coly Valley to Colyton, Colyford, Seaton Wetlands and finishes at the Malt House at Seaton. Walkers can do all or part of the walk. People who live at Beer can do extra miles to walk to home. We used to have lots of people walking and it would be lovely if additional walkers could come along once again. For details and/or a sponsor form please telephone message to (01297) 23040 or email wac500@hotmail.co.uk Donations can be made on the day and we now accept both cash and card payments.

Our Shop at Jubilee Gardens will be closing for the Winter at the end of October and we thank everyone who has purchased from us or donated there since April. We are looking to attend events in the Autumn and will be attending Christmas Fairs in our area in December including Colyton and Beer and our Tesco Seaton Christmas Collection is on Friday 22nd December. Additional collectors and Fundraising Volunteers at events are still needed. If you can help please contact us or come and see us.
