Clyst Hydon Primary School has received a 'Good' rating by Ofsted following an inspection visit in June this year.

The school had previously been rated as 'requiring improvement', and the education watchdog has praised the progress made since the last inspection in 2019.

A new Head of School, Joanna Rousseau, was appointed in 2021, and the Ofsted report states that since then,  ‘leaders have been relentless in their drive to improve the quality of the school’s curriculum’. Staff are described in the report as being ‘ambitious for all pupils’ and as ‘knowing each individual child extremely well’. The school is described as having a ‘calm and purposeful atmosphere’ and that ‘there are many wide-ranging experiences to enrich the curriculum'. The report said the school is 'like a big family' and said the pupils were 'very polite' with 'impeccable manners'. It also noted that ‘Parents are overwhelmingly positive. They appreciate the strong sense of community the school instils'.

Joanna Rousseau said: "Everyone in our school has worked really hard towards this outcome and we are thrilled that this hard work was recognised by the inspection team, giving us a Good rating in all categories.

"We have had such support from the local community and all our parents, and this really has been a team effort. We might be a small school, but we have big ambitions for our school and our children, and whilst this has been a wonderful achievement, the school’s leadership, staff, and children remain committed to building upon this success, and aiming even higher, with lots of exciting plans for the future."
