Axe Valley Academy in Axminster has been rated as 'good' at its latest Ofsted inspection.

The school was inspected in September this year, and was marked good. The last time the school was inspected, in December 2020, it received a 'requires improvement' grade.

Inspectors said in the latest report: "They were overwhelmed by the number of positive comments that parents had typed into the free text box and that they also had requests from many parents for a phone call so that they could share the positive ways in which the school has helped their children. When the inspection concluded, 96% of parents said that they would recommend the school to others.

“The school has high aspirations for all pupils. It has a clear vision for pupils to achieve well academically and to develop well personally.

"Strong relationships are forged between school and parents. This is an important step in the school’s improvement journey."

Headteacher Rob Crocker, who took over as head of the school in September said: "I was exceptionally proud of how all staff rose to this challenge and how this is reflected in the report; this is the result of 4 years of their dedicated hard work. More importantly, students shone brightly throughout the inspection process too; they were all really proud of Axe Valley and took every opportunity possible to talk about school in a positive way. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all parents who contributed to the Parent View survey.

"I am unashamedly ambitious for every student as I believe that strong qualifications form the foundations for a successful start in life. We know that Axe Valley is a truly comprehensive school, this year we have more students than ever before and that includes many more students who join us from primary school as high prior attaining students and to see them be stretched, challenged and flourishing already, has been brilliant.

"Like every school in the country, there are things that we can always do better and we’ll strive to keep going from strength to strength. For now, I hope you join us in celebrating an excellent Ofsted report."
