Five fire appliances tackled an electrical fire at a bungalow in Offwell yesterday morning, (October 27).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue received reports of an electric box within a property on fire with electrical cables above the roof sparking at a bungalow in Offwell at around 6am.

On arrival, crews called for the help of two more fire engines, totalling five fire engines along with support appliances and officers in attendance. The following equipment is being used to extinguish the fire: two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one safety jet and one thermal imaging camera.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "The fire was put out at around 12:30. This incident is now complete and was brought under control at around 8pm. The fire which started accidentally in the privately owned bungalow, quickly spread to the roof and was well alight on our arrival.

"Crews made good and steady progress to bring it under control using in total eight breathing apparatus and five hose reel jets, along with various ladders and small tools. Crews then thoroughly checked the property with thermal imaging cameras and cleared the property of smoke using a positive pressure fan."

An occupant from the property suffered from light smoke inhalation and was treated on scene by fire service crews administering oxygen therapy until the arrival of ambulance paramedics.

Crews from Colyton, Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Seaton and Exeter's Middlemoor all attended.

There were no further casualties and once the property was made safe duty of care was left with the owner.
