Lyme Regis has been shortlisted by its residents among a list of the UK's most depressing towns.

The poll, created by scathing town reviews site iLiveHere.com, is asking the UK to nominate their town or village for the worst place to live - with 153 British towns and cities currently on the shortlist, and Lyme Regis has made its way onto the list.

No East Devon town or village has been named on the list, and someone out there in Lyme Regis must have voted for the town to be on the list.

iLiveHere launched the poll to find the most depressing town in Britain for 2024.

The site says: "Bland, Boring, Soul destroying mediocrity with a gaping cultural void. This is what our new poll is about. This year we are ditching the usual suspects to focus on those towns throughout this septic isle that give you a almost-terminal case of ennui.

"The towns where you just exist rather than live. From home counties commuter dormitories that close down at 10pm to seaside resorts that are ghost towns in winter, this poll is about them.

"Tourist traps like Padstow that have been expunged of locals to make way for weekend AirBnBs or places that exist solely to part Americans from their money like Edinburgh and Canterbury.

"This poll covers the length and girth of Great Britain taking in Scotland and Wales for the first time. So get voting and take a big steaming dump on the Sundays Times Best list and estate agent’s cheap-suited dreams."

Residents of the UK’s most boring boroughs and tedious towns are being asked to nominate their home as the most “soul-destroying” in Britain.

"The poll is something of an annual tradition but this year the emphasis has changed from a poll locating the “worst place” to live in the UK, to one finding the most depressing.
