Two sister care homes in Devon have unveiled an exhibition that shares the stories of its residents.
Pinewood Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton and Elmwood Residential Home in Colyford have introduced their heart-warming 'These Hands' exhibits.
These exhibits feature photographs of resident's hands, accompanied by a brief history of each individual's life.
The hands symbolise the depth of a resident’s life, bringing their past experiences, talents and hobbies vividly to life.
Highlighting the significance of the project, Sally Williams, manager at both homes, said: "It is easy to forget that the person we are looking after has lived a life.
"The point of the project is to let us see that we care for individuals who have their own life experiences.
"Ultimately, the intent is having a better understanding, and promote Person Centred Care.
"Staff, residents, and relatives are enjoying the whole experience.
"The display was put together by our staff and can be seen developing in each home on the walls of the main corridors."
Philip Sadeghi, director at Pinewood, emphasised the value of the exhibition, saying: "The exhibition serves a reminder for the teams at both homes, and visitors, to take a moment to reflect on the multitude of experiences and memories embedded in every crease in every hand."
Elmwood's director Soroosh Sadeghi said "This simple exhibition is helping to encourage deeper connections between our caregivers and our residents."
'These Hands' honours the residents' legacies by letting their stories be told and remembered.
