Vicar of Dibley co-writer, Paul Mayhew-Archer, is bringing his comedy show to Lyme Regis to raise money for Parkinson's UK.

The BBC hit comedian, diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011, taps into his humour to manage the condition, which has over 40 symptoms and currently has no cure.

He will perform his original one-man show, Incurable Optimist, on April 14 at the Woodmead Halls.

Mr Mayhew-Archer has always seen the lighter side of his condition, transforming his experiences into jokes.

Despite the serious nature of Parkinson's, he's made appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and The Comedy Store.

He has also co-created an award-winning documentary, Parkinson's - The Funny Side, and co-hosts popular podcast Movers and Shakers, which delves into the realities of living with Parkinson's.

The show, however, isn't only about living with Parkinson's.

In Incurable Optimist, the comedian recounts his life as a writer, producer and script editor for some of Britain's favourite comedies.

The show, he insists, concentrates on comedy and laughter's power to uplift spirits.

Mr Mayhew-Archer says performing the show makes him momentarily forget he has Parkinson's.

Comedian Josh Widdicombe praised Paul's talents and said: "Paul isn’t just one of the country’s funniest writers.

"It turns out he’s also a brilliant performer."

The event aims to increase contributions for the Lyme Regis Parkinson's UK support group.

Set up last year, the group offers information, support and friendship to people living with the condition.

Stephanie Colston, the group's coordinator, expressed her delight towards the upcoming event.

She said: "I’m thrilled that Paul has agreed to perform in Lyme Regis.

"The evening will be an important fundraising event for us and is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and the support our group offers to people living locally with the condition."

Regular Lyme Regis support group meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 2pm-3.30pm at the Lyme Regis Powerboat Club.

The Incurable Optimist show will take place at 7pm on April 14, and tickets cost £15 per person.

All proceeds go directly to the local Parkinson's UK support group.
