Exmouth’s game at Brixham was the only South West Premier Division game to be lost to the weather.

The fixture has been quickly rearranged and will now be played on February 10.

The results elsewhere have left the Cockles just a dozen points behind second-in-the-table Bournemouth, who they play a week on Saturday (February 3) in what looks to set to be a huge – and mouth-watering clash - in Hampshire.

The Cockles have 10 matches to play in their South West Premier League campaign and a top two finish remains very much ‘in their grasp’ as they have to play four of the five teams sitting above them in the table, starting with this coming Saturday’s (January 27) Imperial Ground meeting with Newton Abbot.

When Exmouth played at Newton Abbot on match day six of the season the contest was full of points with the South Devon side taking the honours to the tune of a 48-42 score line.

Last weekend, Newton Abbot lost their sixth game of the campaign when beaten 17-14 by table-topping Dings Crusaders.

Newton Abbot were beaten in their last away game, going down 26-25 at Cleve and have lost three of their last four away matches, suffering a 33-20 defeat at Brixham and 27-12 loss at Newbury Blues with their only away win since a November 4, 54-32 success at Hornets, being a 16-8 triumph at Weston-super-Mare on December 16.

The Cockles’ home form has been good of late. Since a November 4, 34-33 defeat to visiting Weston-super-Mare, the Cockles have beaten Cleve 34-21, Newbury Blues, 45-25, Ivybridge, 26-20 and Maidenhead, 30-24 and head into Saturday’s Devon derby looking for a fifth successive home win.
