Honiton Scouts recently invested Ernie Willcocks into the Leonard Beaver Colony.
His mum had emailed to say that she could not make it but would it be possible for her father-in-law, Laurie Willcocks to come along as he was a part of the 1st Brixton/Yealmpton in the South Hams where he had been doing Scouting for years until he retired last year as the first lockdown hit.
Scout leader Helen Turner said: “Ernie is the first of his 10 grandchildren to join the Scouting movement so we thought it would be nice to get him to hold the flag and put the Honiton Scarf onto Ernie once he had said his promise. Laurie did not know this until we were about to invest his grandson.
“Laurie was really pleased that he was able to join in with his grandson’s investiture. It made it just a little bit special for Ernie.”
