A Honiton woman is warning of a potential cat killer operating in the town after her beloved moggy was targeted twice in less than 24 hours.
Five-year-old Gizmo returned to her owner Jane Glover’s home last Thursday (August 2) with fishing wire tightly tied around her neck.
Unable to snip the wire, Jane and her partner rushed Gizmo to New Street Vets in Honiton, where staff managed to free Gizmo from the blood-soaked line.
However, the following day, Gizmo again returned to the home with a piece of string tied around her neck in a bow.
Jane’s partner managed to untie the string from Gizmo, who is now being kept indoors while the couple liaise with police.
Jane, who works in Honiton, said: “The first time, I could not untie the wire from Gizmo’s neck.
“I called my partner down from bed and he tried taking it off, but could not. We called the vets and rushed her down.
“She seemed okay, she had managed to eat a bit of food at first. When we got the vets, they considered putting her under anaesthetic but the staff managed to get the wire off.
“The next day, I left for work. My partner came back at 9.30pm and found Gizmo sat on the doorstep with string tied around her neck.
“We have kept her in since. This has never happened before - I have lived in this area for six years and had Gizmo for five of them.
“We have two other cats and nothing like this has every happened to them.”
Jane said she is moving house at the end of the month, which she hopes will fix the issue.
She added: “It may have been coincidence, she may have ran into something - but I honestly do not think so.
“It was strange that something so similar happened a second time so quickly.”
