Volunteers honoured for their work with youngsters
Two Axe Vale Canoe Club voluntary coaches have received national recognition for encouraging youngsters to take up the sport.
Graham Baker and Donna Vincent were both nominated for ‘Children’s Coach of the year’ by British Canoeing.
After winning the regional awards last year for voluntary female and male coach of the year, British Canoeing recognised their dedication to introducing children and youth participants to the fun sport of Kayaking and Canoeing, and their commitment in supporting children with special needs.
Graham and Donna have been running their Junior Academy for three years and have been successful in retaining youth members from the local community and surrounding areas.
A spokesman for Axe Vale Canoe club said they were thrilled that British Canoeing recognised their time and effort in providing quality fun coaching.
And although they did not win the title – facing stiff competition from professional coaches from all aspects of the sport – their nomination was ‘an enormous achievement’.
