Leanne Greengrass, who created See the Future three years ago, was awarded a prestigious gong by the annual Inspiration Awards for Women.

A Honiton woman who founded a national sight loss charity has been recognised as an inspirational woman.

Leanne Greengrass, who formed See the Future in response to her mum’s cancer diagnosis, was awarded a prestigious gong by the annual Inspiration Awards for Women.

The awards recognise women who inspire those around them.

Leanne was invited to a glitzy ceremony at Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London to receive her accolade, and said is still pinching herself.

She said: “I can’t believe I won an award for being inspirational.

“I love running See The Future as it keeps my mum’s memory alive. I’m more passionate about it now than ever after losing her.”

See The Future was set up by Leanne to raise money for non-government funded eye care units and awareness of sight loss conditions and the importance of going for regular eye tests, which can detect brain tumours, macular degeneration, diabetes, strokes, glaucoma and rare eye cancers.

Leanne’s mum, Jacqueline, who died in October 2014, was the inspiration for the charity after being diagnosed with a rare eye cancer.

Mum-of-two Leanne said: “This award has made me more determined to get the message out there to why it’s so important to go to the opticians, not just for vision purposes, but other ill health issues that can be detected.

“The awards night is a night I will never forget. It was amazing being in a room with so many inspirational women and hearing their stories.

“I want to thank all my family and friends and other supporters for believing in me.”

Leanne is now gearing up to host her biggest fundraiser of the charity’s year - a lavish ball at Woodbury Castle on September 22.

The event, which is in its sixth year, will host a champagne reception at 7pm and three-course dinner at 7.30pm.

The night will also feature a live acoustic singer and a charity auction.

Tickets are £45 and can be purchased on See the Future’s website. The dress code is black tie / posh frocks.
