Three Death Cafés are opening soon in East Devon – with more planned.
They will be taking place during the next three months in Honiton Axminster and Seaton.
At a Death Café, which is free to attend, people meet to talk about mortality and all that goes with it, while enjoying tea and cake.
Organisers of East Devon Death Cafés Emma Kennedy and Gill Amos believe that death should not be a taboo subject and as such people are denied the opportunity to explore their feelings and ideas about it. The aim is to share experiences and listen to others.
Said Gill: “It’s not morbid and certainly won’t kill you! Death Cafés can be very life affirming, sometimes there is sadness but they are supportive and even enjoyable! There is no agenda, anyone trying to lead discussions to any conclusion or sell anything. It is a respectful, supportive and confidential space. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.”
The new death cafés are at: Honiton on Tuesday, March 7, 7pm to 9pm, at The Beehive Centre, Dowell Street; Axminster on April 25, 7pm to 9pm, at Arts Café Church Street; Seaton May 23, 7pm to 9pm in Eden Room at Eyre Court Hotel, 2 Queen Street.
