Parents and children from Axminster RC Primary School stage a roadside protest
Parents and children at St Mary’s RC School at Axminster turned out in force today (Thursday, February 25) to demonstrate against Devon County Council plans to stop funding their crossing patrol man.
They carried banners and urged motorists using the busy Lyme Road to sound their horns in support of their case – many of them enthusiastically doing so.
Hundreds have signed a petition opposing cost saving plans to make the school pay for its own lollipop man.
Axminster Mayor Douglas Hull, who attended this morning’s protest, said the high volume of traffic they saw showed how necessary it was to safeguard crossing patrol man Dave Swift’s job.
