Youngsters from Honiton Primary School were taught valuable life-saving skills as part of a new scheme being rolled out.
The ‘Be First Aid Smart’ scheme is being fronted by Councillor David Foster, East Devon District Council’s health and wellbeing champion and former mayor of Honiton. The year six pupils were taught how to act calmly and deal with a situation if they came across a person who was unconscious.
They also were told not to put themselves in danger, and if they didn’t know the person, call for help. Towards the end of the session, the pupils were taught how to put a person into the recovery position and resuscitate them.
Mr Foster said: “The focus of the session was to teach the pupils how to deal with that style of situation.
“It was a big success and the kids really got something from it.
“You never know when you might need to use those skills, so it was important to have that knowledge.”
Littletown Primary Academy pupils are next to be taught, at a session being held on January 14.
