School leavers and job seekers will be given an opportunity to explore job opportunities and career options in Honiton.

The MP for Tiverton and Honiton, Neil Parish, will be holding the East Devon Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair on Friday, June 27, at Honiton Community College, from 10am until 4pm.

Mr Parish said: “This jobs fair shows that Devon is open for business and open for jobs. Devon has one of the fastest growing economies in the UK with the County worth over £19 billion and is the largest in South West England.

“With so many innovative businesses I believe that young people have a bright future here in Devon and whether it is through getting a job, volunteering with a charity or doing an apprenticeship they will have the skills and confidence to have a fulfilling career.

“I would like to thank the businesses, the local councils and charities who agreed to take part and I would especially like to thank Honiton Community College for hosting the Jobs Fair.”

The event is in association with the National Apprenticeship Service and Jobs Centre Plus and will provide careers advice to help people find work.

More than 20 different employers and training providers will be in attendance, including local business, Axminster Carpets, River Cottage, HepcoMotion, Deer Park Country Hotel and the Land Rover Experience.

National employers such as the Army, Royal Navy and BT as well as local public sector organisations such as Devon County Council and East and Mid Devon District Councils and charity organisation.

The principal of Honiton Community College, Glenn Smith, said: “It is essential that our young adults receive first class careers information, advice and guidance prior to making important, life changing decisions.

“The cut backs and consequential downscaling of the careers and advice service on a national level, means it is evermore essential that schools and colleges work in partnership with employers, training providers and our local authority to ensure the quality of provision is maintained.”
