Lyme Regis RNLI chiefs delighted after town’s big summer event does better than expected
This summer’s Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week has raised more than £30,000.
Organisers are surprised and delighted at the result, after fearing that spells of wet weather had hit takings,
Roger Goudge, treasurer of the Lyme Regis and Charmouth RNLI Guild, said with donations still coming in he was fairly sure the total would now reach £31,000.
“The result is better than I expected,” he said. “We did not have unbroken sunshine, and we certainly had some rain. But on the whole the weather was pretty good to us.
“I must praise the generosity of donors to our life-saving charity and of course the band of volunteers who gave up their time to help in so many ways.”
Highlights, as usual, included the Red Arrows and the RAF Falcons parachute team.
Mr Goudge pointed out that in his first spell as treasurer three years ago the total was £47,000, but there were many special events to mark 150 years of a lifeboat service in Lyme Regis. Last year’s total was £37,000.
Vice chairman of the fund-raising group, Irene Roper, said: ”We are extremely pleased with the amount raised after a year of hard work.
“Our thanks go to everyone for the amazing donations made to our charity especially in the current economic climate.”
