Colyton Grammar School students raise £1,210 for three charities

A two-week readathon by youngsters at Colyton Grammar School had a happy ending for three worthy causes.

Inspired by World Book Day, in March, the Year 7 youngsters had to choose books to read in their own time, with the emphasis on trying new authors, whilst also collecting sponsorship for their reading.

Their total was a fantastic £1,210, with Emily Mulley putting in a brilliant personal effort to raise more than £200.

The money will be split between three charities: CLIC Sargent and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity - which both provide support for children with cancer and other serious illnesses - and ReadWell which provides books and storytellers to children in hospital.

English teacher Helen Millman-Jones, who organised the event, said: “It has been wonderful that the students have been so enthusiastic about reading and have raised such an amazing sum.”
