Colyton woman Sarah Greenacre completes a gruelling 18-mile sponsored walk to help Alzheimer’s sufferers like her ex-publican dad Richard
A Colyton woman is the toast of the town after completing a sponsored walk between five East Devon pubs.
Sarah Greenacre raised more than £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK when she took on the tough 18 miles trek.
The event was in honour of her dad Richard, who suffers from the condition.
Mr Greenacre was a successful publican in East Devon since the 90s and developed early onset vascular dementia around five years ago. He is now 61 and in a very advanced state of the disease.
Sarah’s walk took in the pubs that her dad ran, with his wife, and other hostelries he used to enjoy visiting.
These were The Half Way Inn, Aylesbeare, The Bowd Inn, Sidmouth, The Blue Ball, Sidford, The Hook and Parrot, Seaton and The Kings Arms, Seaton.
Sarah was joined by 25 friends and five dogs for the final 12 miles and although the walk was gruelling at times - up and down the South West Coast Path - she said a great day was had by all and the weather was fantastic!
She told The Herald: “I want to send a great deal of thanks and the very best wishes to everyone who came on the day, to all the people who sent donations, to the pubs involved and to anyone who has supported the walk over the last few months.
“I’m so happy to have raised so much money for such worthwhile causes and it is all credit to the power of people coming together to make a change. Hopefully we’ll have another ‘Adventure for dementia’ next year.”
Sarah’s final total was £2078.17.
