MP unveils a newly liveried tramcar which will fly the flag for the defunct Bristol Tramways company
Seaton’s MP Neil Parish cut a ribbon at the weekend to help keep history on track.
He was in the resort to launch a newly liveried tramcar which bears the navy blue and cream livery of the now defunct Bristol Tramways.
He was amongst a party of local VIPs and guests welcomed to the ceremony by Seaton Tramway’s managing director Jenny Nunn, during a ‘trains, trams and buses gala weekend’.
Presenting Mr Parish with a picture of the old Bristol Tramways, Mrs Nunn explained that, although there was a significant fleet of tramcars in Bristol, by the late 1930s buses had started to replace them and the Luftwaffe finally put paid to the last remaining trams in 1941 when they bombed the depot.
Today’s link with Bristol is Seaton Tramway’s role in keeping the heritage of this unique type of vehicle alive for generations to come.
Tram 8 is now in service and can be seen most days from now until early November with the Tramway operating its daily timetable.
