Honiton academy will try again in September.

Honiton Community College has vowed not to give up on plans to build new classroom facilities despite losing out on Government funding.

The college was unsuccessful in its bid for cash from the academies capital maintenance fund, run by the Department for Education, for a 2.2million technology and modern foreign languages block.

The college’s director of finance, Gary Wills, said: “We are extremely disappointed that we did not get the funding.

“We will discuss the way ahead with the project managers and get some feed back from the Education Funding Agency.”

He added: “The governors and staff are still determined to provide top rate facilities for our students and put in another bid.

“We have got the vision of where we want to be and are hopeful we can bring it to life.”

In total, 1,071 academies applied for funding for 2,465 projects worth 1.16billion during the initial online application round.

These were whittled down to 773 projects worth almost 250million – 571 academies from across the country were awarded the available funding.

The college hopes to resubmit its bid in September.
