Village’s traditional summer highlight is abandoned this year because no one can be found to run it
One of the biggest events in Uplyme’s calendar has had to be cancelled this year.
The village fete, a summer highlight since the 1920s, will not take place this June because no one can be found to run it.
Paula Wyon Brown and her husband John have been organisers for the past decade – the last five years virtually running things without any help.
Despite warning a year ago they would not be doing it this time, no one has come forward to take over.
Mrs Wyon Brown said: “We can’t find anybody to get involved, it is really a shame.
“They have had a year and pretty much everybody knows about it.
“It was so exhausting last year with basically just my husband and myself.”
The fete was run in aid of the village hall and usually made around �1,200. Local charities also benefitted as they were able to run stalls at the event and keep the proceeds.
