Honiton Community College students shine during an engineering project.

Students in Honiton have been putting theory into practice as part of an engineering project.

Year 12 students Chris Hack, Adam Greeland and Catherine Storey from Honiton Community College took part in the Engineering Education Scheme and recently attended an event at Plymouth University.

As part of the six month project the students were paired up with Exeter-based Alcoa Howmet to help them reduce waste from its high-end engineering foundry.

During the event the students had a display stand and were quizzed about the project by professional engineers and scientists.

The group also gained a British Science Association crest award which will count towards their university applications.

Honiton Community College students were up against eight different schools who took part in the six month project. They narrowly missed out on grabbing first place by a mere two points.
