THE international language of friendship breeched any communication difficulties when Axminster entertained its friends from across the Channel at the weekend.
A party from the French twin town of Douvres La Delivrande enjoyed an action-packed stay, starting with a reception at The Guildhall.
The visitors were welcomed by Mayor Andrew Moulding before they tucked in to some of East Devon’s finest gateaux.
Axminster was officially twinned with Douvres in 1999. It is a small town in Normandy, near to the D-Day beaches, close to the city of Caen, and has a similar population to its East Devon counterpart.
